Im Stillen
Project Overview
This visual design suite was created for the 2026 Hildesheimer Literatur-Wettbewerb, an annual literary competition organized by the Förderverein Forum Literaturbüro e.V. in collaboration with Literatur-Apotheke. Centered around the 2026 theme “Im Stillen” (In Silence)—which explores subtle, quiet reflections and unspoken human experiences—the assignment encompassed designing the official promotional poster, website banners, digital collateral, and prize certificates. The objective was to create a poetically resonant identity that captures the delicate relationship between literature, quiet contemplation, and hope in turbulent times.
Visual Storytelling & Process
The central visual motif features an origami paper boat constructed from newsprint and text fragments, navigating open waters toward a softly glowing sun. This metaphor directly connects to the concept of literary creation: crafting thoughts out of paper and words to set them afloat on the “ocean between the lines”. The lighting creates a serene, dawn-like atmosphere, balancing quiet melancholy with a sense of hopeful renewal. The layout was systematically adapted across print and digital media—from large-format posters and public transit displays to web banners and official award certificates—ensuring visual continuity throughout every touchpoint of the competition.
Visual Language & Symbolism
A contemplative color palette of deep ocean blues, soft seafoam, and warm luminous gold forms the emotional backbone of the design. The typography balances crisp clarity with poetic breathing room: wide letter-spacing (tracking) on the title “Im S t i l l e n” visually reinforces the theme of quietude and pause. The paper boat serves as a symbol of vulnerability, creativity, and journey, while the background textures and glowing horizon evoke the quiet beauty of a rising sun. This harmonious blend of tactile paper elements, gentle lighting, and spacious typography gives the literary competition an inviting, poetic, and prestigious aesthetic.
